The Justification: Best items to justify from the End of 2009 sale:

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Justification #1: The darker colors and subtle details make this beauty an eye catcher in the summer months and a stylish, cold-but-do-able choice in the winter months.
Justification #2: This dress also hides stains extremely well. Especially when the drunk girl at the wedding you’re attending spills her entire drink on you. Trust me.
Justification #3: This dress is 70% off. I swear you’re going to hate yourself if you don’t just buy it now.
Justification #1: Simon Millers for 50% off? Yes please.
Justification #2: These aren’t in production anymore, so grab these while you still can!

“Let’s be honest, the reality rarely lives up to the romance and I am OK with that—I think we all could benefit from letting ourselves get lost in the romance of an idea or perception instead of having to know every excruciating detail of reality.”

The Justification: What’s new/My newest obsessions/Last minute gift ideas

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Justification #1: So this jacket is my number one current obsession…and it should be yours, too.
Justification #2: It’s also new.
Justification #3: And, it would make a really great last minute gift idea. Yeah, it’s a little pricey for something you’re going to give away but that’s what you get for waiting until the last minute.
Justification #1: Okay, maybe $475 is a little much for a gift. If I was going to receive a gift that wasn’t the Filippa jacket, this would be my second pick (hint, hint).
Justification #2: It’s also a lot less expensive. (Notice how I put the most expensive item first…$150 for a gift isn’t looking so bad now, is it?)
Justification #1: And for those guys that are so freaking hard to shop for…this wrap bracelet is perfect because it’s manly and won’t make them look like girly.
Justification #2: Unless that’s the look they want. Then it does. It also looks really good on girls!

Notes On: Getting Waisted

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Fortunately for you, this post is not about last Thursday’s antics which resulted in getting so wasted that certain members of my social group called in sick to work, fell asleep on the job or in one particular case, someone was asked to go home early. In case the homonym escaped you, this post is about belts and showing off your waist. I’m not sure if it’s the consumption of many a holiday treat or the fact that I have no core (according to my trainer), but my collection of expensive jeans has been shoved to the back of my closet and replaced with leggings, skirts and dresses. (Editor’s note: I’m not actually blaming my current refusal to squeeze into tight jeans on any sort of weight gain, but rather on a sartorial shift in the universe.) Anyway, my new clothing choices have given me the chance to rediscover one of my favorite accessories: the belt. I’ve started quite the collection, and these are my top picks:

-Filippa K Thin Belt
-Ashley Watson Skinny D-ring Belt
-Any belt from Madewell

Deep Thoughts: Color

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

After enduring my rather abrupt wake-up call (what can I say? I can’t handle snoring) a friend recently confessed that, upon waking, he initially mistook my room for a hospital. Although my style could be described as extreme minimalism, having it likened to an asylum isn’t exactly a dream come true.

I’ve always loved the look of bare white walls, I find it an incredibly soothing contrast to life’s daily stress. It’s also extremely easy, a no-brainer, in terms of design. I approach my wardrobe with the same fervor, except in lieu of white, I stick with fiercely minimalist, always in style, black. Prying my bony little fingers from their vice grip on my ink J Brands and 15 variations of the same black tank, however painful it may be, is a necessary foray into the unknown. Especially after boring myself skimming previous posts, realizing I constantly write about this exact dilemma. After finally hanging girly pink pictures in my bedroom, perhaps it’s time to follow suit with my wardrobe.

Here’s how I’ll be injecting a much needed dose of warmth to my closet:

The Justification: What I’m currently loving

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Justification #1: These leggings have stirrups, so they won’t bunch up!
Justification #2: They’re also available in purple, for those of you who appreciate color.
Justification #1: This tee is my number one obsession. Seriously-I bought if to give as a present (you’re welcome, Rooms) and then I also had to buy one for myself.
Justification #2: It occurred to me while writing this that there are some especially lovely Facebook pictures of me from an impromptu night out. There’s nothing like having a million pictures taken of you when it looks like you just crawled out of bed. But at least you sort of get to see how amazing this tee is!
